Year End Review & Among Us! Cub Edition!

May 10, 2023

For our second last meeting of the year, we decided to get back to basics and work within our lairs (small teams made up of our Howlers, Trackers and Runners) to go over our year of scouting and hear from our Cubs what they liked, what they hated and how we could improve the program for the Fall when we meet back in September to fire back up again this amazing Outdoor Adventure Club. 🙂

To no one’s surprise, it appears that as long as meetings throughout the year have some food, or based on feedback, more food we are going to have a pretty successful year.

From a leader’s perspective this past year wasn’t without its hiccups, bumps, and left turns, but as is with Scouting you learn to roll with it, try to come prepared for anything, and Do your Best!

Thank you all for your support and thank your Cubs for the amazing discussions and feedback they shared with us.  ðŸ™‚

To finish the night off we played a few rounds of Werewolves, The Among Us Cubs-based edition that was crafted (adapted) by one of our Leaders.

The game itself is a social deduction game where players work together trying to figure out who the saboteur(s) or Imposter for this version is and shoot them out the airlock before the Imposter eliminates all the CrewMates.

From the excitement and how many times the Cubs wanted to play again, it feels like it was a hit and something we will work on playing more with the group.

Volunteer Opportunities Available

With one more meeting left our focus and attention as a leadership team (after we survive Group Camp) is turning to the requirements of the Pack for the fall.  To that end, we are in need of New Parent Volunteers to join our team to ensure we have enough Leaders to run the program in the fall.

I started out brand new in December as a leader, I had no Scouting experience, except dropping my kids off for meetings and adventures and running away to enjoy the ‘free time’.   If you have any capacity or interest in volunteering please consider it. We need new leaders to replace those moving up with kids and to be able to split our pack in the fall in two and accept more Cubs off the waitlist.

The training required is all done online and would need to be completed before you can join our team. My hope is new leaders will get it all done before September so we can start next year off with full leadership teams in place and clear out the waitlist.  Our goal as always is to leave no Cub behind!

If you have any interest please reach out to someone on our team or contact (any leader within 3rdWaterdown and we can chat about the role, the opportunities available, and how to get the process started.   It is an amazing opportunity to mentor and work with youth, to grow and experience new things and get out and have some fun while supporting our communities amazing youth.

Please consider it.   I know when my son started out in Beavers and my second son was still just a baby, I had no capacity or interest in volunteering, I was too overwhelmed with the move to Waterdown and looking after two kids full time.  But now that they are older volunteering made sense and when asked I was thrilled to be able to give back and support the team that has been supporting my kids for 6 years now.

Like I said, I had no experience with Scouting and to be honest that for me has been the best starting spot, as I question everything, am learning tonnes and have the opportunity with the leadership team to help create an exciting program of meetings and adventures for our youth while at the same time being able to get out and experience those same adventures.   It truly is an amazing opportunity to see what motivates your own kids as they grow and mature through the years.  Please consider joining us if you can. 🙂
