Cub Scouts Campfire Chairs!

March 29, 2023

The original Cub Campfire Chair

At this week’s meeting, we finally were able to get to work on building Campfire Chairs.  Originally planned as an activity for Camp Manitou, the build was shifted to our regular meeting nights due to the snowstorm that canceled the first night and compressed our schedule of planned activities.

Introducing Cubs to new skills and activities is what Scouts is all about.  From cordless drills, hammers and nails, and a little woodworking combined with a little teamwork, the first night of our build went fantastic.

As an added bonus, Woodworking can count as one new activity (out of four) towards your Cubs Hobby Badge and Building Badge.  To find out more about either badge and to help your Cub complete their Plan-Do-Review to earn either badge follow the hyperlinks to Scouts.ca.

Following Scouter Justin’s lead and using his Camp Fire Chair, from when he was a Cub, as our template, Cubs were broken out into two groups to either work with hammers and nails to assemble the seat or work with screwdrivers and cordless drills to build the back of the chair.  They will get a chance to switch and work on the other section in the following weeks.

We hope to finish up the build in our next couple of meetings so that each Cub has a Campfire Chair for Group Camp in May.
